2018 Grants Awarded

For the first time ever we were able to give

$200,000

in grants this year supporting seniors of Sangamon County!

We met on Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church to celebrate this historic milestone in connection with the celebration of our 125th annual corporate meeting.  Below is a list of our recipients. 

Traditional Grant Cycle:

$5,000   Animal Protective League            
 For pet deposit fees for seniors, and pet supplies.

$9,200 Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois
 To provide utility financial assistance for seniors referred through the Crisis Assistance Program.

$8,000  Catholic Charities of Macon County         
 To pilot A Matter of Balance program in Sangamon County.

$6,000 Comfort Living And Associates  
 To provide utility financial assistance for seniors in the Heating and Cooling Assistance Program.

$18,000 Contact Ministries          
To provide prescription assistance to clients age 55 and older who live in Sangamon County.

$5,200 First Presbyterian Church Food Pantry   
For the 55 Plus Program, which provides healthy foods for clients age 55 and older.

$2,500 Grace Lutheran Church Food Pantry        
To support the food pantry -- must separate food for seniors from regular food pantry items.

$7,500 Greater All Nations Tabernacle Church of God in Christ   
 To assist with purchasing meals for senior monthly luncheons.

$15,000 Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County          
 To install wheelchair ramps for seniors in need.

$6,000 Helping Hands of Springfield      
 For a Senior Fund, which would be used to purchase medical services/items for clients in the Representative Payee Program. Grant is not to be used for administrative purposes.

$4,100 Illinois Symphony Orchestra       
For the Around the Town Concert series.

$5,000 Land of Lincoln Honor Flight       
To fly Sangamon County veterans from Springfield to Washington D.C. to visit National WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War Memorials, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Marine Memorial, Air Force Memorial, and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museums.

$5,000 Loami Area Community Pantry  
To purchase items that specifically address the needs of seniors and not normally available at the pantry.

$12,000  Sangamon County Community Resources           
To provide $200 of utility assistance to low-income seniors ineligible for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

$13,000 Senior Services of Central Illinois, Inc. - Daily Bread         
For kitchen equipment upgrades, and exercise equipment upgrades and repair. Grant is not to be used for administrative purposes.

$7,000 Senior Services of Central Illinois, Inc. - Senior Transport and Emergency Rent/Utility      
For the transportation program, and for an emergency fund to benefit seniors facing eviction or utility shut-off. Grant is not to be used for administrative purposes.

$5,500 Springfield Muni Opera
For the Senior Bus Program, which provides transportation to attend the four senior nights at The Muni.

$8,000 St. Joseph's Home         
For Oculus Virtual Reality Headsets and laptops to pilot virtual reality technology to help residents with dementia and who are non-verbal.

$3,000 The Parent Place            
For respite activities for grandparents, monthly lunch at support group meetings and child care for support group meetings.

$32,500   Alzheimer’s Association
To continue with the current Lunch and Learns, Operation Boot Alzheimer’s, and caregiver retreats for 2018-2019

$22,500  SIU School of Medicine
To continue the Minds in Motion, and Opening Minds through Art programs for 2018-2019
